On the lead up to the festive period, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed by your workload and unsure where to start. Here are some of our top tips to help you combat seasonal stress.
1. Plan Ahead
Take a look at your current workload and start prioritising with a good old-fashioned list.
Identify which tasks can be completed now and make a note of anything that can wait until the New Year.
2. Don’t Overestimate Yourself
During busy periods, it’s easy to say “yes” a little too often.
Be mindful not to overestimate how much you can realistically achieve before breaking up for the Christmas holidays. Only agree to tasks you know you can complete without adding unnecessary stress.
3. Delegate
When reviewing your task list, there is often another colleague or team member who could help lighten your workload.
Delegating tasks and responsibilities will not only reduce your workload, but also help lower your stress levels.
4. Look After Yourself
There are many simple ways to reduce stress that can easily be overlooked during busy periods:
Listen to music
Listening to music can have a positive effect on both the brain and body. It may help lower blood pressure and reduce cortisol, a hormone linked to stress.
Take a lunch break
It’s tempting to eat lunch at your desk when work is busy, but stop and take a break. Whether it’s a walk, a quick massage, or coffee with a friend, stepping away can make a big difference.
Take a deep breath
You may breathe tens of thousands of times a day, but how often do you really notice it? When feeling overwhelmed, pause and take a few deep breaths to help restore balance.
5. Have Fun
After all, it’s Christmas! Celebrate your successes, enjoy good food and drink, and embrace time spent with family, friends and loved ones.
